Well, it's just amazing how much stuff has changed since Beta 1. If you
haven't read the February 2006 MSDN magazine, be sure to check out
Aaron
Skonnard's
ABCs of Programming WCF. I had a chance to meet Aaron at a
PluralSight CampSight event that I attended and he's an outstanding writer
and teacher. In fact, all of those guys are awesome. During that event, they
brought in
Martin Gudgin to talk about
WCF security features, and
Mark Fussell to
talk about
WSE 3.0. Reflecting back, I was pretty excited about
.NET Remoting when the first version of the .NET framework went RTM, but
didn't do a lot with it. First of all, binary over TCP was the fastest and most
useful, but difficult to secure. You can secure remoting endpoints with IIS, but
most of the time I found that I could just use ASMX. Anyway, WCF is going to
include all of the things you want in .NET Remoting (minus soapsuds thankfully),
plus everything you love about WSE. Definitely check out the article.
