Whatever Happened to Ethics?

A friend of mine sent me this article today entitled "CEOs cut pensions, pad their own." It makes me sick to read. More and more companies are cutting back on benefits such as insurance and getting rid of pensions all together. I suppose I embrace this sometimes harsh reality of capitalism, otherwise I wouldn't want to work exclusively as a 1099 contractor. Some people say that's less secure, but if you ask me, it has been more secure. In fact, I've ONLY been RIFed as an employee, never as a contractor. Sure, contracts end, but that's fine. If you keep your skills sharp and a decent sized savings account, there's no reason to worry about being a contractor. Personally, I've had more weeks of vacation time, MUCH better training, better tax benefits, the same insurance plan, and a lot of really interesting projects to work on being a contractor. Maybe if more companies were loyal, I'd consider being loyal to a company. Stealing people's pensions - not loyal, not ethical. Period.
