I agree with Frans,
this is complete BS. I've complained a lot about the problems and quality of latest version of Visual Studio. I'm not going to belabor that point any further because we all know it has problems. What I'd like to see is solutions to its problems. I honestly don't care about Orcas right now as a customer. I care about what the issues I deal with today before I'm thinking of upgrading in the future. Seems like Microsoft could just stop work on future development and fix the problems with their current software and then move on, but I suppose that's a naive perspective. After all, I don't work in sales and marketing; I'm just a developer. To me, dev tools that work well are better than cool new dev tools that constantly crash or have crappy performance. At least the ASP.NET team did the right thing with the new Web Application Project Option. Still, Visual Studio needs a service pack NOW, not in 2007. Just my $.02.
